Attractions and Places to Visit in South Carolina

The Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway passes small towns, peach orchards, and historical sites as it traverses 130 miles of Blue Ridge foothills in the northwest corner of the state. The Ashley River Road (Route 61), which runs parallel to the river for about 11 miles north of Charlestown, leads to famous plantations and gardens. The Savannah River Scenic Highway traces the Savannah River for 100 miles along the Georgia border, winding past three lakes. The museum features educational hands-on exhibits, a science theatre, a planetarium, and changing exhibits. People of all ages will find this museum intriguing.
Explore the night sky during public shows at the Dupont Planetarium in Aiken. While the planetarium's main focus is astronomy, other shows may take watchers into wild weather events or the molecules of a living cell. The planetarium encourages visitors to make reservations.
The central city of Columbia is the state capital, but historic Charleston is the center of charming antebellum streets and plantations with moss-covered ancient oaks. The state is also known as a premier golf destination in the United States.
In Congaree National Park the waterway passes through a primeval old-growth forest which contains some of the tallest trees in eastern North America.
