Golf Clubs in South Carolina

South Carolina is known for golf. Imagine playing golf in a pristine park setting, with no condominiums, houses, roads, or those penalizing out-of- are no adjacent fairways - just picturesque views of forests, lakes, and wildlife. That's what we have to offer! Both courses are Tom Jackson designs, economical to play, well-conditioned and golfer-friendly.

South Carolina is home to more than 450 golf courses, including some of the most famous in the world. With courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Davis Love III, the Palmetto State hosts many prestigious tournaments, although most of the best courses are also open to the public.

However, the vast majority of South Carolina’s most famous golf courses are thoroughly modern affairs, headlined by the 1991 Ryder Cup course, Kiawah Island (Ocean) and Long Cove and Harbour Town at Hilton Head. Each year millions head to the golfing playground of Myrtle Beach where there are more than 120 courses to choose from. It is therefore no surprise that the state tourist board flaunts South Carolina as the No.1 golfing state in America.

The Cheraw State Park golf course will remind the knowledgeable golfer of those classic golf courses designed and built in the early 1900s. With gentle sloping greens and generous landing areas on most of the par 4 and par 5 holes, you will experience golf in a true parkland setting. Lake Juniper serves as a backdrop on several holes making a golf trip to Cheraw State Park is a visual treat. The Cheraw golf course is also a Certified Audubon International Wildlife Sanctuary.

Charleston is where one will find the best of South Carolina’s Golden Age golf course designs, headlined by Seth Rayor’s Yeamans Hall which Tom Doak restored in the late 1990s. But the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken can reasonably claim to have the USA’s second oldest golf course.

Hickory Knob State Resort Park is adjacent to Lake Thurmond. This huge Strom Thurmond reservoir lake serves as defining feature of this challenging course. The waters of Lake Thurmond are visible or come into play on every hole on the Hickory Knob Golf Course. In order to score at Hickory Knob, be prepared to hit every shot in the book. There is a tremendous variety of slopes, contours, fairway widths, and bunkering, so bring your best game to this great golf tract.
